A lot of buyers send me one message:

“Please quote expanded metal mesh.”

I understand. It looks like a simple product.

But actually, expanded metal mesh has many small details. If one detail is wrong, the whole project may feel wrong after installation.

For fencing, buyers usually care about strength, visibility, anti-climb effect, and cost.

For walkway, it’s different. You need anti-slip surface, enough load capacity, right thickness, and right support span.

For facade or ceiling, the key point is appearance. Flatness, coating, opening size, and color consistency become more important than only strength.

So before asking price, I usually ask:

Material?
Thickness?
SWD and LWD?
Raised or flattened?
Panel size?
Real application?

Some buyers feel this is too many questions. But these questions save trouble.

I’ve seen projects where the mesh was cheap, but the opening size was wrong. The buyer had to reorder. That is not cheap anymore.

For outdoor use, galvanized expanded metal mesh is still a very practical choice. For coastal or chemical environment, stainless steel expanded metal mesh may be safer. For building facade, aluminum expanded metal mesh is often better because it is lighter.

My simple advice:

Don’t buy expanded metal mesh from a photo only.

Send your application, drawing, or even a site photo. A good supplier should help you choose the right specs, not just give the lowest number.
