China's galvanized steel exports surge in early 2024, eyes 16 million tons for year

2024-07-01

From January to May 2024, China exported about 7.65 million tons of galvanized sheets and coils, marking an 18.55% annual growth rate and demonstrating consistent upward momentum. Despite a slight decline in exports observed in March, the overall volume remains approximately 250,000 tons higher compared to the same period last year.

With China's expanding domestic production capacity of galvanized sheets and coils amidst declining market demand, particularly from the construction sector, companies are increasingly focusing on export opportunities to utilize their production capabilities.

The primary destinations for China's galvanized exports are concentrated in Southeast Asia, notably Thailand, South Korea, the Philippines, and Brazil. Projections suggest that China's galvanized sheets and coils exports for the entire year of 2024 could exceed 16 million tons, albeit with a potential gradual decline in the second half of the year. The rise in export volumes not only alleviates pressure on the domestic market but also underscores the importance of monitoring price fluctuations in foreign markets that could impact export dynamics.
